Tomorrow's Hope Newsletter - July 2023

“And let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we shall reap if we do not grow weary.” Galatians 6:9

Greetings in the precious name of our Lord Jesus the Christ.

In our recent trip, from the 23 June to 12 July 2023, the team comprised of Michael, Sintha and Kylie Chia.

Pak Niko was paralysed but can now sit up. Ibu Sintha teaches his wife how to massage his legs for better circulation.

In Medan, again we had the opportunity to visit Pak Niko and his family. He is undergoing physiotherapy and, in the photo, Sintha is demonstrating some basic messaging techniques for Ina Niko to apply on her husband.

Please continue to pray for Pak Niko as he had shared that the pain is, at times, unbearable. He said that now he listens to gospel music too. He is thankful for all the support that he has received.

After a day’s flight delay in Medan, we arrived at Gunungsitoli Nias onboard Citilink and the objectives of this trip were:

  1. To attend to important matters pertaining with the Society in Indonesia.

  2. To launch the Tomorrow’s Hope website which Kylie designed.

  3. To revive some of our skill programs.

  4. To spend time with the children during the school holidays.

Indonesian children who are orphaned or fatherless join Tomorrow's Hope.

These are 8 new children who are now part of the Tomorrow’s Hope Children’s Home, and they are adjusting to the life of our community. We don’t have many details about their backgrounds yet, but one child is an orphan while the rest are without fathers - they either passed away or abandoned their families.

Once a year, the children return to their respective villages for Christmas. A day on the beach is a popular request that the children look forward to, especially during the school break.

Thanksgiving is an essential aspect of the community, and it is a discipline we inculcate to be grateful for our daily meals, the roof above our heads and even for our daily chores.

Tomorrow's Hope beneficiaries of the home help with farming work,
We have resumed clearing the land and have planted Turmeric, together with fruit trees.

Teaching teenagers how to harvest and process oil from plants so they can produce essential oils.
After a lapse of two years and with some repairs to the still, we have also resumed with the distillation of essential oils.

Maintaining a farm, goat hut and clearing the encroaching forest by hand is hard work for the kids at Tomorrow's Hope.

Selling goats is one way of earning money for the orphanage.
Out of the 15 goats, two were recently sold at a price that enabled us to cover the children’s uniform expenses for the next school year.

The children at Tomorrow's Hope home receive new uniforms and prepare for the new school term.
20th July 2023, was the start of a new academic year.

The Home is blessed with the current 26 children but there are still many more underprivileged children who do need a brighter hope in life.19 children are attending the Lentera school while 6 are in the government school. Robert has enrolled at the local University. We have again met with the Lentera school supervisor, emphasizing the agreement between the Home and the school which entitles our children a place in that school.

Nearby rural villages have little to afford education or put food on the table for their children.

Sadly, we had to return Hatta, who had been with us for six years, back to his village. The decision was unanimously made by the community. Although he had been warned and counselled on several occasions, he was still unrepented and persisted in his wrongdoings. His was constantly stealing and his rebellious attitude towards the social workers.

A close relative cried upon hearing the problems Hatta had caused at the home and because of their weak economic status, Hatta may not be able to attend school again.

Do remember us in your prayers:

  1. Pre-School A program which we have prayed for many years and now in August 2023, we begin with our pre-school for children, from nearby villages. A huge challenge for the missions, as we have initially planned for about 7 children and to expand gradually. The teacher-in-charge is Ms. Sote, and she is also one of our social workers.

  2. Tuberculosis After a medical check-up, it was confirmed that three children from the home, have tuberculosis, and are now under medication. They may have been exposed to the bacteria from their village.

  3. Sponsors Required Six children are without sponsors, and we continue to pray that our Lord Jesus will stir the hearts of His people to be supporters to this mission for the under-privileged children in Nias.

…not according to our words, but according to His own purpose and grace which was granted us in Christ Jesus from all eternity.” 2 Timothy 1:9

May our Lord Jesus Christ bless us all richly in His divine grace.
